Ibrahim Malam Soumaila

Ibrahim Malam Soumaila is a Visiting Research Associate at the ALC. Ibrahim holds a Bachelor of Forestry and Environmental Management from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Federal Republic of Nigeria. Ibrahim is currently attached at the ECOWAS Commission, Abuja as an ALC Associate with the FOREWARN Initiative project which aims to contribute to the enhancement of effective disaster risk reduction in the West Africa region by strengthening ECOWAS’ organisational capacity in anticipation, adaptation, collaboration, innovation and strategic Leadership.
Before taking this role, Ibrahim worked in the Ministry of Environment in Niger from 2008 to 2012 as Head of prevention and control of pollution and nuisances Division. In this capacity his tasks were to ensure the environmentally sound management of waste, prevention of pollution by industrial units, monitoring and implementation of the Vienna Convention on the Ozone Layer Protection and the Basel Convention on Hazardous Wastes, also member of the Adaptation Unit of the climate change at the National Council of the Environment for Sustainable Development. Ibrahim previously worked with an International NGO, COSPE in a project called Fonds Italie-CILSS covering four west African countries( Senegal, Mali, Burkina and Niger) funded by Italy to fight against Desertification and Poverty in the Sahel.
