Somaliland
2024–2025 Fellow
Amal Mohamed, a communications specialist from Somaliland, holds a Bachelor’s in Communications and Journalism from Marist College, New York. A dedicated community leader, she co-founded the Muslim Student Association and was active in the Black Student Union and International Students Club. In high school, she launched a literacy program for children with special needs.
Returning to Somaliland, Amal served as Deputy Director of Communications at a peacebuilding organization, promoting dialogue and amplifying marginalized voices. Currently, she is an ALC Fellow in African Women’s Leadership and Peacebuilding and is pursuing an MSc in Global Leadership at King’s College London, focusing on women’s leadership in peacebuilding.
African Scholars in Peace, Security & Development Fellowship
Sudan
2024–2025 Fellow
Geoffrey Lou Duke is a South Sudanese advocate for peace, justice, and human rights with over a decade of experience in small arms control, community security, and peace negotiations. He holds a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the University of London and an Associate Degree in Development Studies from Kampala International University.
As Head of the Secretariat for the South Sudan Action Network on Small Arms, he addresses arms proliferation issues. Geoffrey has led influential campaigns, such as the “Referendum Without Guns” and “Bread Not Bullets.” A former civil society representative at the Tumaini Mediation Initiative, he’s now an ALC Fellow and MSc candidate at King’s College London, focusing on peace and leadership in Africa.
Zimbabwe
2024–2025 Fellow
Esther Wadzanai Mano, a Zimbabwean historian and scholar-activist, explores the intersection of education and liberation in Africa and the diaspora. She holds an MPhil in African Studies from the University of Cambridge, where her research examined education in Zimbabwe’s colonial detention centers, and chaired the 10th anniversary Cambridge Africa Conference, creating a decolonial space.
She earned a BA in African & African American Studies and Human Development from Earlham College, where she co-founded a residential floor for Black and African students, fostering pan-African community. As a Watson Fellow, she researched community-driven education reform across Africa. Esther is now pursuing an MSc in Global Leadership and Peacebuilding at King’s College London and is an ALC Fellow, focused on education as a catalyst for peace and justice in Africa.

Nigeria

Kamila, a communications specialist and development practitioner, holds a Bachelor’s in Spanish and International Relations from the University of Southampton, UK. She currently works as an External Affairs Officer at the World Bank, focusing on employee engagement and internal communications.
Her experience spans both public and private sectors, including roles as an HR Programme Officer at Bono Energy, where she developed HR policies, and at Neem Foundation in Nigeria, where she led workshops for mental health awareness and crisis response. Now an ALC Associate Fellow and MSc candidate in Global Leadership at King’s College London, Kamila is committed to advancing leadership and institutional transformation in Africa.
