Mandate
The ALC Research Ethics Committee is responsible for research approval for all ALC research supported activities that require ethical supervision. The Committee establishes procedures for research that requires dual jurisdiction in cases in which the ALC is in partnership and develops further its rules of procedure. In all instances, it will be guided by the need to safeguard best practices and maintain academic freedom.

The following constitute the responsibilities of the ALC REC:

1. To review, assess and provide approval for research projects
2. To investigate and identify guidelines for doing research in particular countries
3. To identify identical research proposals and how they interact
4. To respond to a research ethics application
