ALC Peace, Security & Development Fellowships for 2024/2025
The African Leadership Centre (ALC) is pleased to announce a call for applications for Peace, Security & Development Fellowships for the academic year 2024/2025.
About the ALC
Established over 10 years ago, the ALC has played a critical role in shaping the next generation of African leaders, nurturing talent and African ideas and knowledge to advance the transformation of African societies. Located in both Nairobi, Kenya and King`s College London, UK, the ALC strives to inform and influence academic, research and policy discourses on leadership, peace, security & development on the African continent and globally. The Centre envisions a next generation of Africans that will shape thinking and policy decision-making on issues at the nexus of peace, security and development in Africa; African home-grown ideas and knowledge base on peace, security and development; and an engaging constituency of academic and policy institutions collaborating on peace, security and development in Africa.
The ALC Fellowship programmes seek to produce high performing graduates with identifiable leadership characteristics and skills, who generate cutting-edge research on peace, security and development and participate in institutional, national and regional networks to train and mentor the next generation of African academics.
Core Values: All activities related to the ALC programmes are guided by a set of core values that include: promoting African-led ideas and processes of change; the pursuit of excellence; encouraging independent thinking; respect for diversity in all its forms – not least gender, religion, class and beliefs; recognition of youth agency; and integrity.

AFRICAN LEADERSIHP CENTRE FELLOWSHIPS
Fellowships for African Scholars in Peace Security and Development (degree awarding):
This award is available to young African scholars who are interested in pursuing research and academic careers in peace, security, and development. It encompasses an eighteen-month period, comprising rigorous academic research, writing and policy analysis in the field of peace and security and a six-month attachment to an African University, a Regional Organisation, or a Centre of Excellence based in Africa to acquire practical experience. Fellows gain academic knowledge within the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding programme at King’s College London and benefit from uniquely tailored mentoring sessions. During the fellowship, fellows contribute to the African Leadership Centre’s ten-year research agenda entitled “Peace, Society and the State in Africa.”
To apply for this programme, applicants will need to create an account on the King’s website here and apply under the Peace and Security Fellowship Programme. In addition to applying to the above MSc programme, applicants need to make a separate application for the fellowship programme here. Fellowships for African Women in Leadership and Peacebuilding (degree awarding)
This fellowship is available to young African women, particularly from conflict-affected contexts, interested in pursuing research, policy and practice careers in the field/s of peace, security and development and with an emphasis on leadership. It includes post-graduate study at King’s College London on the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding programme and a uniquely tailored mentoring programme. During the fellowship, fellows contribute to the African Leadership Centre’s ten-year research agenda entitled “Peace, Society and the State in Africa.”

Fellowships for African Women in Peace, Security and Development (non-degree awarding):
This award is available to young African Women in the early stages of their careers seeking to deepen their knowledge and experience in the fields of Leadership, Peace, Security and Development. It is a residential program based at the ALC in Nairobi, Kenya. Learn more about the Fellowships for African Women (non-degree awarding) programme, including the eligibility criteria, phases of the programme, terms and how to apply here. Applicants to this non-degree fellowship programme may also be considered for the Early Career Peace, Security and Development Fellowship. To apply to this programme you need to first create an account and login to the ALC application system here. Once you log in to the system, please follow the instructions given in the system.
