The African Leadership Centre (ALC) at King's College London is pleased to announce that our current student Zekarias Beshah has recently been awarded the African Community of Practice Outstanding Achievement Award. Zekarias has received £1000, to be spent on activities related to his academic areas of interest. Zekarias is currently on the 2016-17 MSc Security, Leadership and Society programme at King's and also on the ALC Peace and Security Fellowship for African Scholars.

The award offers an opportunity for the recipient to carry out an activity that enhances their academic journey that would otherwise not have been possible.

This award has been made possible by the generous donation of Richemont International, who made £4000 available to support African students at King's. Through the ALC and African Community of Practice (ACP), departments were chosen across King's who have been particularly active in the ACP. Faculty from those departments then selected high-achieving African students worthy of this award using criteria which included: most improvement over the course of study; highest performance; and most innovative idea for using the prize.

This year's winners were chosen as:

  • Zekarias Beshah, Ethiopian, African Leadership Centre;
  • Adel El- Adawy, Egyptian, Department of War Studies;
  • Eseoghene Dase, Nigerian, King's Centre for Global Health;
  • Abisola Yussuf, Nigerian, Department of International Development.

ALC and the ACP would like to extend very many congratulations to all recipients, along with very many thanks to Richemont International for their immense generosity. Thanks also goes to Richard Kays, Jenny Ng and all staff at the King's donor relations office for facilitating the granting of this award.
